Moving to a new city can be tough. You may not be familiar with the area and you may not know anyone nearby to show you around, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get out and explore your surroundings.
Don’t sweat it – if you’re moving to Columbus, Ohio, or have recently moved we’ve got you covered. Here are five awesome things you should do to get acquainted with your new home city:
Visit the Short North
Taking a stroll through the Short North is great for single movers and families. You can visit the many shops down High Street, eat at one of dozens of great restaurants, or take a night out and experience the Short North bar scene.
There’s always something to do in this part of town, no matter what type of activity you’re looking for. If you’re a bit of a trek away from the area, try visiting on a Sunday – parking is free throughout the city!
Go to an OSU Game
Even if you’re not a huge football fan, one thing you must do after moving to Columbus (or any surrounding area) is go to an OSU football game. Bring a group of friends and tailgate on campus before going into ‘The Shoe’ for the full experience, or simply make an effort to make your way onto campus during a home game. People watching can be as fun as taking in the game (plus it can be more cost effective if you’re on a budget).
Grab a bite at the North Market
The North Market is a lovely little gem full of delicious eats just minutes away from the Greater Columbus Convention Center. It’s a great way to sample a wide variety of foods without travelling all over the city, and you can purchase groceries, cookware, and gifts.
Experience the Columbus Zoo
The Columbus Zoo is known for being one of the best zoos in the country, and you’re lucky enough to have it right in your back yard! Visit during the summer for a fun outing, in the fall when the larger animals are more active, or in the winter to see the beautiful Zoo Lights. No matter when you visit, you’ll be sure to enjoy it.
Wander around Easton
If you enjoy shopping, Easton is the place to go. It’s an indoor and outdoor mall with a ton of variety, from high end shopping and restaurants to more affordable and approachable ones. Catch a movie at the indoor theatre, try some of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, hang out at the Lego store, or take in a comedy show and the Funny Bone.
These five to do’s are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the many activities you can enjoy in Columbus, Ohio. Once you get out and start exploring, you’ll surely find a number of things you’ll love to do regularly.
